Online Muslim Nikah Service

The world is changing rapidly and technology is touching every aspect of our lives. Now, it is possible to get married even if you are oceans away from your loved ones. Online nikah marriage is one of the most beautiful conveniences offered by this age. It can be done quickly, safely, and in accordance with Islamic methods. This is an important need, especially in different countries of the world, in places where it is physically distant and impossible to access Islamic religious services.

For this purpose, I accompany and assist couples from different countries of the world in their marriage processes. I also take screen recordings of the marriage. In this article, I will both tell you how online marriage works and give an example from the online marriage of Ali and Aya that we held a few days ago.

How is Online Nikah Performed?

Online marriage is performed in accordance with Islamic rules, just like a religious marriage performed face to face. The only difference is the location; everything is done via video conference. The following steps are usually followed:

  • Preparation and Communication: A preliminary interview is held with the couple. The necessary information is obtained. The appropriate date and time for the ceremony is determined.
  • Imam and Witnesses: An experienced imam and at least two witnesses are included in the organization.
  • Live Nikah Ceremony: The ceremony begins with repentance and the declaration of faith. Then, the couple declares their acceptance of the marriage three times separately. Mehr (dowry) is determined. The language of the ceremony is English.
  • Prayers and Congratulations: After the marriage contract is made, prayers are said and the ring can be worn (optional).
  • Nikah Certificate and Video: The conference call made with Google Meet or Zoom is recorded with artificial intelligence support. The transcript of the speeches is also taken simultaneously. The digital wedding certificate prepared as a souvenir is also sent to the couple as a PDF.

Ali and Aya’s Online Muslim Nikah

Ali and Aya’s wedding was an exemplary ceremony in this sense. This couple, who reached us from Baghdad, Iraq, wanted to get married according to Islamic methods, but they were not even in the same city.

We prepared the entire organization:

  • Imam Cihat Bodur Bey officiated the ceremony.
  • My colleague Gökhan and I took on the witnessing duties.
  • We also carried out the Turkish and English translation duties.
  • The ceremony began with repentance and testimony. Ali and Aya accepted the marriage three times. The nikah was completed with prayers. Then the rings were put on.
  • The ceremony was recorded from beginning to end on video. This way, the couple will be able to watch this special moment again whenever they want.
