Cappadocia continues to attract people from all over the world. You can meet people from all continents and nationalities here. This is a region that is visited by 4 million tourists each year. This time the couple was from Moscow, Russia. Polina and Asan are a married couple for 8 years. Polina was five months pregnant when I was shooting. She especially underlined that his waist has not become too thick yet she said: “I can walk and climb anywhere, don’t worry”.

Tricks of Drone Shootings in Turkey

Polina said that she especially liked my photos taken with the drone and that it was very important for her to take photos with the drone. Of course I did not say no. The usage of drones in Turkey is bound to strict laws. All activities and flights are progressing under the control of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (SHGM). First of all, if you have a drone over 500 grams, you should register it on the system and get a plaque number. In case of a commercial flight, you need to get a “commercial flight certificate”. After doing this, the flight is still not free everywhere.

Flight is strictly prohibited in the city centers and red areas seen on the application maps. If you need to fly here, you need to apply for permission through SHGM, mentioning your reason and handling over your documents. The procedure for obtaining a permit is carried out through the online system. Unfortunately, many foreign tourists or foreign teams illegally fly dangerously over Cappadocia. Even though it is strictly forbidden, I saw those flying between the balloons while they were in the air. In this case, it is very important to inform the authorities immediately and warn the pilots if they are in the field of view.

Shooting Day

We met with Polina and Asan at the Divan Cave House where they stayed in the morning and we went to Cappadocia valley for photo shooting. The air inside the balloons is heated to about 100 celsius degrees during the flight. Balloons stay in the air with the principle of “warmed air rises”. The air inside the balloon is heated by burning propane gas in the tubes in the basket, which controls the vertical movement. During this burning, a very strong flame comes out. This light in the twilight of the sunrise is enough to illuminate the rocks and the environment, but bringing it together is of course luck. I was very lucky that morning and I took one of the couple’s photos with the help of this flame light. The couple and the rocks on the background were lit by this second flame. We ended the morning shoot at the breakfast table on the wonderful terrace of the hotel were the couple was staying.

In the afternoon, we did many different photo shoots, including drone shootings. One of the most influential of these is the shooting were the light coming from the lamp in one of the gift shop reflected the light of the flash, I guess.

Dear Polina and Asan, I wish you a healthy, peaceful and happy life together with your babies. Hope to see you again.
